Sri Lanka is one of the world’s most beautiful and environmentally friendly islands and one of the best destinations for scuba diving and Snorkeling. Sri Lanka is located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of the Bay of Bengal and southeast of the Arabian Sea, is home to some of the top Scuba Diving spots in South Asia. Snorkelers and scuba divers probably benefit from the Indian Ocean’s geographical location.

The primary diving destinations in Sri Lanka are located around the island’s Southern, Western, and Eastern beaches. Sri Lanka is a year-round scuba diving destination that is also regarded as having some of the top dive sites in Asia. Divers have observed a variety of colorful corals, intriguing fish, turtles, whales, sharks, dolphins, and historic wrecks.

You’re lucky that you can find two underwater museums in Galle(Southern) and Trincomalee(Eastern) and 3 rd underwater Museum planning in Tangalle. The underwater museum is a different experience for divers.

Galle underwater museum is a marvelous underwater experience that has been open 5 th of April in 2020. Sri Lanka Navy constructed Sri Lanka’s first underwater museum under the Sri Lanka Government’s supervision. Underwater museum’s main purpose is the redevelopment of fish and corals breeding. The Museum depth of around 50 Feet(15 Meters) and is a good experience for adults, Children(Above 11 years), experienced scuba divers, and scuba beginners.


The museum opens all days for visitors, but 1 st of November to 30 th of April is the best time to visit. This entrance is free, and you have to pay for your contacted diving center charges. Anyone can see an underwater museum through a recognized scuba diving school. You should get a “PADI open water license” because 15 to 20 Meters of dive is required for this. This license can be achieved from Sri Lankan diving centers after 3, 4 days of training. “Discover Scuba Diving” course does not accept underwater museums because it covers a maximum of 12 meters depth.

This is Sri Lankan’s second underwater museum, open on 10 th of July 2020 and located near the world-famous natural Harbour and Sandy Bay beach in Trincomalee. Sri Lanka Navy constructed the museum under the Sri Lanka Government’s supervision. This is a depth of around 60 Feet(18 Meters) and an expansion of about 13,000square feet. This main purpose is the regeneration of fish and corals breeding.

The museum opens all days for visitors but 1 st May to 30 th September is the best time to visit. It would be best if you had entrance this area through a registered boat company or diving school because this is a high-security zone that Sri Lanka Navy rules. Anyone can visit an underwater museum through a recognized scuba diving school. You should get a “PADI open water license” because 15 to 20 Meters of dive is required for this. This license can be achieved from Sri Lankan diving centers after 3, 4 days of training. “Discover Scuba Diving” course does not accept underwater museums because it covers a maximum of 12 meters depth.

After getting this license, you are qualified to dive 18 Meters and have a lifetime license. You will support this license to save your life and make you confident in your diving experience.
